Kenningham, Mustangs closing in on A North volleyball title
The Mustangs went on the road on Oct. 16 and beat Freehold, 2-0 (26-24, 25-13), to improve to 15-3 overall and 12-1 in the division. They are tied for first with Wall High School, which Marlboro split two division matches with, accounting for the teams’ lone division losses.
In Freehold, the Mustangs’ togetherness and ability to weather a storm led them to the straight-set win. Leading 19-14, the Mustangs were overpowered by the net play of the Colonials’ Rebecca Cobb, who delivered one kill after another as Freehold stormed back to take a 25-24 lead. Marlboro staved off a game point on the Colonials’ serve, and then served it out for the win. There was no letdown in the second game, and Marlboro rolled to its straight set triumph.
