Girls volleyball: Southern wins the Shore Conference Tournament

Third-seeded Southern, which sits at No. 18 in The Star-Ledger Top 20, defeated Wall 25-20, 26-24 in the Shore Conference final on Saturday at Georgian Court University in Toms River.
Emily Miglin led Southern with 13 kills, while Alex Andriani added 15 assists. Cece Hodgson played a great all-around game and racked up six kills, three blocks and eight digs.
In the semifinal round, Southern defeated Jackson, 25-13, 25-19. Much like the final, Hodgson and Andriani led the way for Southern's trip to the final.
It ran into St. John Vianney in the tournament's quarterfinal round, where it needed three sets to trump its opponent, 25-18, 23-25, 25-15. The match saw Miglin tally 16 kills, while Andriani and Carly Dellavalle combined for 29 assists.
Freehold Boro gave Southern trouble in the first round, but it inevitably fell 27-25, 25-22. Miglin and Hodgson combined for 19 kills, while Marina Felmly led the defense with six digs.
